A Men’s Dress Shirt Cuffs Guide
Men’s Dress Shirt Cuffs Guide
Dress shirt cuffs remind us of what makes menswear so unique. It’s all in the details. Most dress shirt cuffs are pretty classic: a barrel cuff with a squared edge and two buttons, which helps determine the snugness you want around your wrist. On the other hand, a dress shirt cuff is usually defined by the shape of the cuff enclosure.
At JavadAli, we use a variety of cuff styles from a subtle, rounded edge to a barrel cuff, to a more unique two-button, scalloped variety. That said, our most popular cuff style is the Convertible Cuff.
Convertible Cuffs
A standard dress shirt cuff comes with a traditional barrel cuff. A barrel cuff is a rectangular piece of fabric with square corners that’s close with a button. When it comes to convertible cuff dress shirts, a second buttonhole is placed on the other side of the cuff that is unseen when worn normally buttoned. but can be opened up and worn with cufflinks. This allows you and the shirt to do much more.
Rounded Cuffs
Our rounded cuff is simply a barrel cuff but we’ve sanded the sharp corners off. Rounded cuffs give off a slightly more casual and relaxed feel so we generally pair them with our button-down collars and, appropriately, our rounded collars. The smooth line makes this a versatile cuff that works well with a variety of jackets and blazers.
Mitered Cuffs
The mitered cuff is a barrel cuff that has had the corners “mitered” or cut at an angle. It’s an interesting detail that creates a sharp look fitting for more professional or formal occasions. Like our standard convertible cuff; The mitered cuff features the extra button hole, allowing it to be worn with or without links.
French Cuffs
The most formal cuff; the French cuff, is twice as long as a regular cuffs and is folded back on itself then closed with cuff links. French cuffs have a very pronounced look. They usually paired with the more debonair collar styles or formal shirts.
Barrel Cuffs
A traditional Barrel cuff is a less formal option than a French Cuff that still conveys a subtle sophistication. Traditionally fastened by a single button closure, all of our Barrel cuffs actually come with two buttons, which allow you to control the snugness of the wrist.
